Strong winds and a tornado hit Cyprus!

A very rare occurrence in Cyprus, but a freak tornado ripped through the capital city, Nicosia on Friday. Along with heavy rains causing damage & chaos. Uprooted trees, blocked roads, flying debris smashing shop fronts and associated mess…

A little over 10 people were injured, ‘thank god we had no victims’ said Panayiotis Kyprianou, mayor of the Nicosia suburb of Latsia. The local authorities and emergency services should be praised for their action and assistance.

Meteorologists suggest that these storms and unusually high winds may say with us for the next 2/3 days. This extreme weather is indeed very rare in Cyprus, especially holiday areas such as Peyia, in Paphos which has seen strong winds and threats of a further tornado. The police have been actively warning residents and holiday makers to the area and blocking the roads in dangerous places.

Although we enjoy 300 days of sunshine a year, it goes to show still need to protect our home & belongings from the elements and quickly put right any damage caused by such events. If you’ve had any problems as a result of the weather and need help with roof leaks, water tanks, plumbing or electrics in the Paphos, Peyia or Polis areas, please give us a call where we’ll do everything we can to get you back to normal as soon as possible. www.n-m-services.eu
